SO, the boss chose J day to ask me to write down my Goal, Aim and Ambition in life. This calls for a blog post, because there really is no escaping him..
My career has been such that I've learnt everything on the job. Until today no one had ever felt the need or duty to ask or tell me what I ought to expect out of life. So the first thing I did was to look up the difference between these three seemingly similar-meaning-ed words. Then I conferred with a few friends and my legendary role model (the very same who scratches my back and cracks my knuckles every night) aka Fatty.
My friends prayed and encouraged me to write straight from the heart (that was unbelievably clueless for a person doing my job). Fatty, on the other hand, knows me only too well; after an emphatic LOL he quickly said, "Don't say you want to have fat babies and be a housewife!" What is there to life if not for fat babies and other housewifely things? What is there to life if not to sit in the garden and write a book? What is there to life if I can't make money for being a funny bunny? And many such questions popped into my head. Then Fatty joined the bandwagon and also suggested I write from the heart. The next time anyone wants my advice I'm going to ask them to {do whatever the verb is} from their heart.
This has been quite a difficult exercise for me, because I had to first figure out how much to divulge tonight and then figure out how much to divulge never. I thought many thoughts but wrote only some of them, taking care to dilute the intention behind most of them. The boss wanted a "simple email", so I kept it as simple as I could. I hope it's not so simple that he evicts me off my precious pedestal.
My Goal
What I said: I want my talents to push my career forward and work on achieving the required skill set to get there. My goal is to strike the perfect balance between work and home. I would like my career and family life to complement each other and allow me to grow in both these areas.
What I didn't say: My goal is to have fat babies and to be a housewife, and to make the most of my writing, singing and, if possible, reading. If I can make a career out of all these (except the first two) put together it will be a goal come true.
My Aim
What I said: I aim to soar as much as possible, really, I don’t have a limit to what I want to achieve. I want to have a luxurious life with a big house, good social life and an excellent standard of living. I want to be able to achieve this on my own and have a secure future. I feel we must always be prepared for unforeseen things.
What I didn't say: I want to be a socialite, have kitty parties, go on extravagant holidays and take seriously long afternoon naps. Also (after sending the email) how much it killed me when I realized I had said achieve one time too many.
My Ambition
What I said: My ambition is to make my creativity the core of my career and excel in what I do best. I want to head an independent unit of creative individuals working on cutting edge products/ services that will be an instant hit in the market. I want my name to be famous as a creative person of influence, known in media circles.
What I didn't say: I want to write a few bestselling books.
