That is a Transfered Epithet. A day, of course, cannot be hungry. It is like shifting the blame.
From the moment I woke up this morning, my tummy has been rumbling for food. All these acids have been playing havoc in there! So, as soon as I stepped into the office, I went to get myself some fruits from the kitchen. Unfortunately, most of the fruits that came in this morning were a bit on the raw side, so I had to settle for two bananas.
I thought bananas were supposed to be filling, and two bananas are definitely better than one! But I got hungry again, way before lunchtime! So, I convinced myself that there was no harm in getting myself a Granary Bread and Jam sandwich. But when I got to the kitchen, one of the designers was there and we had this conversation:
J: I'll have some bread as well, thanks, if you could just leave the packet for me
V: Sure
J: [after a few seconds] Are you going to have Cheese or butter?
V: Erm, I'll have both, thanks (What?! I came here for Jam!)
J: Sure, enjoy your lunch!
?!
Lunch is still in the fridge - Roast beef slices, Khobez and Salad!
